Hospice care provides a number of benefits for patients and their families, including pain management, emotional support, spiritual care, and counseling. Hospice care can also help patients and their families prepare for the end-of-life process and provide a sense of closure and peace.
If you or your loved one has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and has a life expectancy of six months or less, hospice care may be a good option. Hospice care can provide comfort, support, and pain management during the end-of-life process. It is important to talk to your doctor and hospice team to determine if hospice care is the right choice for you or your loved one.
Hospice care providers are typically trained and licensed healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and volunteers. Hospice care providers have specialized training in end-of-life care and work together to provide comprehensive care to patients and their families.
Dear Friends, Family and Healthcare Partners,
My name is Amanda Thompson. I am the Owner and Chief Executive officer for Everhome Hospice in Mansfield, MO. I have been in healthcare for 27 years with 21 years of that doing hospice and end-of-life care.
I learned early on in my nursing career that a fast pace, high adrenaline career was not for me. I fell in love with the geriatric community during nursing school and knew that was where my heart would always be. When I started working for hospice as an LPN, I knew my calling had found me. Hospice isn't something you choose, it chooses you. Being a part of such an intimate and vulnerable time for patients and families was something special. It allowed me to spend time with the ones I was caring for. It allowed me to get to know them on a much deeper level, to develop relationships I still carry in my heart to this day.
I worked my way up from and LPN to an RN Case Manager, then to an Admission Nurse and a Quality Improvement nurse. I was fortunate at that time to receive a position in hospice management as a Director of Clinical Services. It was here that I learned how to lead and encourage employees to take pride in their work, to value relationships and to make hospice so much more than just healthcare. Following that, I became a hospice administrator where I learned hard lessons in business and ultimately how to balance a successful business that provided excellent care. It was during this time my husband, Clay, started talking to me about opening up my own hospice. He continued to plant the seed for 3 years.
During that time, I began to see how broken out corporate healthcare systems were. It always came down to the money, the numbers, care became mediocre. Corporations wanted providers to "do more" with fewer resources, and even fewer staff. I began to see how passionate I was about providing a different type of care, a different experience for patients and families who are facing end-of-life. I began to see how important it was to educate the communities on what wonderful services hospice could provide. Hospice doesn't mean death is imminent, and there are people avaliable who can love and support you through this time.
So, we did it....
Our mission is to provide the communities with more. More time, more love, more resources, more support, more heart. We hire local staff with roots in the community who want to give back, to care for those who they have known and loved. Our mission is relationships; with our patients, their families, our community, our partners in care. Our mission is to educate; to make hospice less scary and confusing, to teach families how to provide care and comfort in the home, and to provide resources during and after a loved one's illness. Our mission is not about money; it's about giving back.
In August 2024, we had just started hiring staff, my husband was diagnosed with stage IV Lung Cancer. How bittersweet it was for him to see the seed that he planted fully bloom, as we were able to provide his end-of-life care before he passed in May 2025. His dream for me became a reality, his belief in me never wavered.
It is because of this, our commitment to you is to provide the support and care our loved ones deserve, to provide the care that exceeds your expectations, to serve and give back to our communities.
People will never forget how you made them feel.
Yours in service,
Amanda Thompson
